Oslo Women’s Rights Initiative

The Oslo Women’s Rights Initiative is a network of frontline women experts focusing on three areas: awareness raising through narrative-driven campaigns, advocacy that integrates the voices of network members in key policy-making spaces, and an online support platform that allows our members to realize their full potential.

Our vision is to create a more just and equitable world by changing the way people think and activate around human rights.  By reshaping narratives that encourage global audiences to think about root causes, we can more effectively activate  support for gender equality movements and increase prospects for accountability.

Every year, OWRI holds a conference in partnership with the Nobel Peace Center and the Norwegian think tank Civita to amplify the voices of women in the Network to reach a broader, global audience. We recently launched a public campaign #FreeToBe on changing the language we use to talk about gender violence. It is a campaign centered on putting survivors first. We will be holding a series of online events through March 2021 that will culminate in a larger scale virtual event on the margins of International Women’s Day.
